If you have a California Corporation or Limited Liability Company, you already know that every company needs to have a public Agent for Service of Process in California (also sometimes referred to as a registered agent); that’s a person with a physical address in California, or a company duly registered with the Secretary of State of California.
The purpose of a Agent for Service of Process is to be served papers in the event of a lawsuit against the company. That explains why the name and address needs to be public (if you look up the name of a company on the website of the California Secretary of State, you’ll see the address of the company, and the name and address of the Agent for Service of Process.)
Sometimes our customers hire us to provide that service because they don’t want their names to appear as public record; often times we assist incorporators from other States, or even foreign countries, who don’t have a California address. Well, no matter what the reasons are, a lot of The Document People’s stores offer this service for a small yearly fee. Please reach out to your local The Document People’s store to find out their availability.
The Document People is a network of legal document assistants with a common purpose: helping customers with incorporating services. Whether you need to open a Corporation or file a Limited Liability Company, we can help in our offices in Woodland Hills We the People, Santa Monica We the People, Marina del Rey/Venice We the People, San Fernando, Glendale, Torrance, Van Nuys, Anaheim, Irvine, Oceanside and soon Oxnard in Ventura County.
