As a reader of The Document People blog, you already know from an earlier entry, the State of California has added new wording to all notary languages, being acknowledgments, jurats or copy certification by document custodian.
Here is the new language:

A Notary Public or other official completing this certificate verifies only the identity of the individual who signed the document to which this certificate is attached and not the truthfulness, accuracy, or validity of that document.

A clerk at the Los Angeles County Recorder told us this morning that their preference is the language being encased in the above reproduced rectangle. So, if as a notary you are presented with a pre-printed document without the latest language, rather than write it or print the new language over, it would be safer to just attach a new separate acknowledgment or jurat.
